Self-guided walking

 

The soaring mountains, rolling hills and unspoilt coastline of Asturias provide for excellent and very varied walking possibilities. Below is some information on self guided walking, followed by a list of some of the best walks in the region.

It is very important to take adequate preparation before walking in the area. Take into consideration that this is a steep and precipitous mountainous region with few waymarks and a very changeable weather.

Hotel Posada del Valle we lend and sell maps of the area, and also produce detailed notes for self guided walkers. We have notes for over 15 different self guided walks in the area  which are available to our guests.  As we are walking these routes ourselves, and are in contact with self-guided walkers our notes are continually updated taking into consideration any possible changes.

Hotel Posada del Valle is an ideal base for walking holidays. Because of its location a great variety of excellent walks are within a short car drive from the hotel and some walks may be done starting directly from the hotel. Therefore it is possible to enjoy the great variety of walks the area offers, and select the best walk according to weather conditions.

 


Picos de Europa

CARRES GORGE: Famous gorge walk along the Carres Gorge which divides the Central and Western massif. Total 22 km, Altitudes: 200m-400m.

LAKES OF COVADONGA: Attractive walk around the lakes and the Vega de Bricial with very varied scenery. Total 4km, Altitudes 1100m-1200m-1100m .

ORDIALES VIEWING POINT: Mountain track up to a spectacular viewing point overlooking Ponga. Total 16km, Altitudes 1100m-1700m-1100m.

ARCHDEACONS PATH: Ancient path connecting Leon and Asturias across the mountains 13km one way, Altitudes 950m-1500m-600m.

VEGA DE ARIO: Mountain track to viewing point of the central massif above the Carres gorge. Total 15km, Altitudes 1100m-1650m-1100m.

FITO TO PICO PIENZU: Spectacular scenery of Picos and Coastline Total 12km Altitudes 650m-1150m-650m.

FITO TO COAST: Gentle hill walk to the Vega beach 10km one way, Altitudes 500m-0m

LLAMES DE PRIA TO PLAYA LA HUELGA: Interesting cliff top walk with sea spouts and other features. 13 km one way, Altitudes 0m-100m

Ponga mountain range

PICO PIERZU: Climb to mountain top with absolutely stunning views throughout the ascent. Total 12km Altitudes 1000m-1552m-1000m.

PELOÑO FOREST: Walk through Beech forests with lovely mountain views of Ponga and Picos Total 18 km Altitudes 800m-1300m-800m.

Picos de Europa

 

DESFILADERO DE CARES: Sendero muy famoso sobre el desfiladero del Cares que divide el macizo occidental y central. Total 22 Km, Cotas: 200m-400m
 
LAGOS DE COVADONGA: Sendero atractivo alrededor de los lagos y la Vega de Bricial con un paisaje variado. Total 4km, Cotas 1100m-1200m-1100m

MIRADOR DE ORDIALES: Senda de montaña hasta el espectacular mirador con vistas sobre Ponga.. Total 16km, Cotas 1100m-1700m-1100m

SENDERO DEL ARCEDIANO: Antiguo camino que conecta León con Asturias por las montañas. 13km de ida solo, Cotas 950m-1500m-600m

VEGA DE ARIO: Senda de montaña hasta el refugio por encima del desfiladero del Carres, con vistas espectaculares del macizo central.. Total 15km, Cotas 1100m-1650m-1100m

Sierra del Sueve


Fito al Pico Pienzo: Espectaculares vistas de los Picos y la Costa Total 12km Cotas 650m-1150m-650m

Fito hasta la playa: Suave sendero por la sierra del Fito hasta la Playa de Vega 10km ida solo, Cotas 500m-0m

Costa del Oriente de Asturias


Llames de Pría a la playa La Huelga: Interesante sendero sobre los acantilados con 13 Km ida, Altitudes 0m-100m.

Cordal de Ponga


Pico Pierzu: Ascensión hasta la cima de la montaña con vistas realmente impresionante durante todo la ascensión. Total 12km Cotas 1000m-1552m-1000m

Bosque de Peloño: Sendero por bosque de hayas con buenos vistas de los Picos y Ponga. Total 18 km. Cotas 800m-1300m-800m
