Ecoturism

¿What is Ecotourism?

1. Its principal motivation is the observation and appreciation of nature and traditional cultures.

2. Contribute actively to the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage.

3. Interpret the natural and cultural heritage of the destination for the visitor.

4. Include the local and indigenous communities in the planning, development and exploitation, and contribute to their well being.

At Hotel Posada del Valle we believe we offer the visitor the possibility to enjoy ecotourism in Asturias.

We don't claim to be in the centre of one of Asturias natural parks but in a rural location on the edge of the Sueve Mountains a protected landscape. With in walking distance of the hotel it is possible to appreciate rural villages and traditional farming. There is a lot of interesting flora and many different birds, particularly birds of prey can be seen. The natural parks of the Picos de Europa, Ponga and Redes are also within short driving distances from the hotel.

On the hotel farm we breed indigenous rare breeds and maintain wild flower meadows. We are actively involved in the organic farming movement in Asturias and see this as a way of helping to conserve the natural and cultural heritage of the area. At the hotel we have a policy of buying locally and encourage our guests to do like wise.

We offer a range of guided and self-guided walking with the emphasis on cultural interpretation. We also have a small library with a range of books available to the guests on the interpretation of the flora and fauna of the area as well as its traditional culture.

We try to employ all local staff at Hotel Posada del Valle and on the farm.
